Ireland End-to-End 2025 – Dawdling in Donegal

On a rest day, I think you’ll agree that refuelling is vital. And Ahoy Café in Killibegs turned out to be the perfect place to order our first full Irish (vegetarian) breakfast

Killibegs self-identified as Ireland’s premier fishing port, and there was plenty of evidence to back up their claim

Other highlights of the day included a visit to Sliabh Liag (pronounced Sleeve League) – an intimidating lump of treeless high ground of the kind you think twice about tackling in bad weather. And that was definitely the reason that we chose instead to go to the prize-winning Rusty Mackerel pub in Carrick, just down the road

Where the decor in the bar

Was almost as impressive as the topping on the pints

You’d definitely not want to confuse your orders at this unusual commercial outfit: a pub/petrol station

But without a doubt the top highlights of our day were the views

Which changed with every bend in the road

Every passing squall

And every new combination of cloud and sky

There were even rainbows

It has all been very good for keeping my mind off what is shaping up to be a very long ride to Derry/Londonderry tomorrow. Wish me luck!
