Ireland End-to-End 2025 – How to spend St Patrick’s Day

The birds are nesting, the earth is warming under our feet and Bernard is itching for his next adventure.

Just as well then, that I have A Plan.

And what better way to spend St Patrick’s Day than fine tuning a route through Ireland?

So now I can tell you that, starting from Mizen Head at the Republic’s southernmost tip on 4 April, Team Bernard plan to ride through Killarney, Limerick, Enniskillen, Donegal and Derry/Londonderry, amongst other places, dipping in and out of Northern Ireland on our way. If all goes to plan, we should reach Malin Head in the far north 10 days later, having pedalled about 700km and climbed about 7,000m.

This time, it will just be me, Bernard the bike and Guillaume our Grumpy Gallic Guide (aka the Garmin GPS device) doing the pedalling. Jon will provide accommodation and moral support via Midge the Motorhome.

The words of an Irish blessing seem apposite at this point:

“May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been
The foresight to know where you’re going
And the insight to know when you’re going too far.”
