At the risk of repeating a joke, Sevilla was very Bizet…

In fact the streets were so crowded, we thought it was another día festivo.
If you’re fond of military history or the paintings of Goya, you’ll know that Dos de Mayo is a holiday in Madrid, commemorating a famous rebellion against French forces in 1808. But in Sevilla it’s just a normal day, and after all our time in rural emptiness, Sevilla’s normal was a touch hectic.

We were starting to think we’d never get away from it all, but we took heart from this girl’s jacket:

And did indeed find some quiet corners, where we could enjoy the city’s wonderful sights in peace

And find others that are less well known:

In particular (and to us inexplicably) the old Jewish quarter:

Seems largely to escape the scourge of the tour group:

And provides spaces for tranquil refreshment

Though we weren’t sure the venerable priests would have approved of Jon’s choice

As always, curiosities caught our eye, like this food outlet’s imaginative cultural-linguistic brand mashup:

And we enjoyed the whiff of romance in the old kissing corner

Though after cycling 950 km in each other’s company, perhaps we should just be grateful we’re still on speaking terms

Tomorrow we’re off to Jerez, where in the interests of research, we might need to sample some of the local produce. Hasta mañana!
