France et Suisse 2022: Touring off the Beaten Track

Never heard of some of these places I’m staying in? Neither had I. It’s one of the joys / curiosities / eccentricities of a ride like this from A to B, where the intermediate points are just a means to an end: you find yourself in some very random spots.

Talizat was a hard-scrabble hamlet of a few dozen homes, many of which had a barn attached, with a curved grassy ramp to the upper floor. As I went to bed I could hear cows mooing in the one across the street. The rooms in the Auberge were the exception: the few other commercial enterprises served local needs:

As elsewhere, Talizat commemorates its martyrs, but amid the sombre roll call

… it was good to see a story of survival:

A 100 yards away, I found surprising remnants of jollier village gatherings.

Talizat may not feature in any tourist guide, but there’s no denying it’s in a very beautiful part of the country.
