A gate without a bike propped against it – must mean a rest day. Given my legs are screaming at me just going upstairs, I think it was necessary.

Kirkby Lonsdale sported some excellent art on their public toilets – to which everyone is welcome provided they have a credit card to open the door.

I am hoping this one wasn’t trying to tell me something:

This seemed sensible advice, given the height of the bridge, the shallowness of the water and the proliferation of rocks. I wondered what would count as a reasonable excuse?

If you’re ever in Kirkby Lonsdale I recommend you try the Barn Kitchen’s Panouzzos – sourdough pita sandwiches from Naples, in case like me you’d never heard of them. The halloumi and mushroom was delicious. They also make the best coffee I’ve had in several hundred miles.
